I was at my favorite mechanic this morning getting a safety for a car im selling, when i spy this:

Kinja'd!!!

He says he’s restoring it for himself, mostly as a replacement for his usual motorcycle riding.
I had a closeup looksee. That paint is actually very good under the dust.He said it was an unfinished project thats been sitting for years.I asked him about the electrics and he wasnt worried. ‘i’ll just replace things as they die’ Hmm.
He’s doing lots of mechanical work, completely reconditioning the motor and so on.

I’d always wondered why someone would bother with these when there are much cheaper more reliable Mazdas everywhere ,but i’m starting to see the point. These do have a certain charm

A MG is like an OG miata. I’d take a mint one over a Miata any day of the week.

That’s pretty much a standard state for vintage MGs.

Oh my, that’s a collection of parts. Make sure it’s all there, and make sure you have the consent of your spouse/partner to take lots of money out of savings.

Late model. 1975 or later. RHD so dual carbs. A chrome bumper model is lighter, faster and better looking.

When you are bit by the old British car bug, your bit. Perhaps it’s the exhaust note or the wire wheels, who knows. Either way it’s a life of iffy electronics and spreading oil over every garage and parking lot in town.

They also handled better, since they didn’t get the elegant 1" suspension lift.

I restored a ‘71 MGB and have owned a few Miatas so I feel qualified to talk. The MGB was way more fun to drive and work on, but of course you wouldn’t want it as your only car. Everyone complains about British electrics, but the systems on that car are so rudimentary and simple to fix that it’s really not a concern.

Miatas are reliable and fun, but only have a small portion of the charm that a classic MG does.
